Secrets of Realistic Painting: How Our First Master Class Went

Our studio has been making figurines for over 10 years, and during this time, my team and I have conducted numerous experiments to create figurines from scratch: clothing, accessories, and paint. Our knowledge, secrets, and life hacks accumulate and grow with each project. Such skills only come with experience and time. Now is the time when we are ready to begin sharing our developments.

During the event on April 19th, we not only presented our figurines but also held a master class on realistic face painting. Our artist, Evgenia, led a lesson for artists, sharing some secrets. We prepared a detailed master class especially for this event, in which a 1/6 scale head is painted using our technique, honed on our own figurines. In addition to painting, we covered aspects of lighting, head material, and the importance of detailing in sculpture. Although the master class lasted only seven hours, participants managed to complete the entire planned program. There were some challenges, but fortunately, they were only technical and quickly resolved.

We'd long planned to create a training guide on realistic head painting. This workshop demonstrated that there are artists interested in gaining this knowledge. It's crucial for us to develop the industry not only among figurine collectors but also among artists interested in entering the world of 1/6 scale.

Unfortunately, our studio's distance from the center of the country prevents us from holding such events frequently, so we decided to organize them online. The groundwork has already been laid, and the training material has been written. All that remains is to produce a high-quality video demonstrating it. We're confident that this format will resonate, and that the number of artists working in 1/6 scale and beyond will continue to grow. This type of painting is suitable not only for figurines, but also for statues and various miniatures.

"...On the second day of Pokrastination, I attended a workshop from Siberian Custom Studio on realistic face painting for 1/6-scale figures.

There, we spent seven hours from early morning, painting the face piece by piece, using both an airbrush and brushes, mixing different colors.

I realized how important the initial sculpt is when preparing it for painting, as the original model was already very high-quality and textured (wrinkles, stubble), which also greatly impacts the result..."
